10 Road Trip Games That Don't Require Screens

We love digital tools (we built a whole site of them), but sometimes you just need to look out the window. Here are our favorite screen-free road trip games.

1. The Alphabet Game

Find words on road signs that begin with each letter of the alphabet, in order, from A to Z. You can't use license plates, and once a word is claimed by one person, no one else can use it.

2. Cows on My Side

When you see cows on your side of the road, you yell "Cows on my side!" and get a point. If you see cows on the other side, you can yell "Cows on your side!" to steal a point. If you see a cemetery, you yell "Ghost cow!" and steal all points.

3. Fortunately / Unfortunately

One person starts a story with a sentence beginning with "Fortunately...". The next person continues with a sentence beginning with "Unfortunately...".

"Fortunately, I found a million dollars."
"Unfortunately, it was in Monopoly money."

4. The License Plate Game

Try to find a license plate from all 50 states. Keep a list on a piece of paper.

Need a tie-breaker?

If you have an argument over a rule, don't let it ruin the trip. Use our Coin Flipper or Rock Paper Scissors to settle it instantly.

For more fun, try generating some Silly Names for the other cars on the road, or play Mad Libs when you finally stop for gas.
